WASHINGTON: Software giant Apple has blamed a rogue App Store server for a glitch that resulted in iPhone and iPad apps, including Instapaper, to become corrupt and unusable.
The firm said that the server wrongly included a Digital Rights Management (DRM) code when the apps were downloaded, which meant they could not be opened, as Apple normally uses DRM to ensure that apps work only for users who have paid for them or are authorised to use them.
"We had a temporary issue that began [on Wednesday] with a server that generated DRM code for some apps being downloaded," The Telegraph quoted a spokesman of the firm, as saying.
"The issue has been rectified and we don't expect it to occur again," he added.
The problem was originally highlighted by Marco Arment, the devloper of Instapaper, a popular app for aggregating and displaying online articles, who compiled a list of more than 100 other apps affected by the glitch, including Angry Birds Space, Word Lens and Yahoo Search, the paper said.
Apple said that anyone experiencing problems with newly-downloaded apps could download them again from the App Store.
